Audio Visual Stimulation (AVS) treatment uses pulsing lights, so persons with a history of seizures or epilepsy should not use these services. Similarly, because Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) uses subtle vibrations that can be felt throughout the body, persons with pacemakers, defibrillators, deep brain stimulators, severe hypertension, DVT, history of blood clots, or bleeding disorders should consult with their medical professionals before using this service. Persons who are pregnant (especially first trimester), have active cancer or tumors, recent surgery (within 4-6 weeks), active infections or fever should avoid treatment or require physician clearance before receiving treatment. Additionally, persons experiencing complex trauma, PTSD, history of psychotic episodes, unstable mental health conditions, severe migraines, light sensitivity, or taking blood-thinning medications are advised to first consult with their medical or mental health professionals before using this service. Children under 18 require parent/guardian consent and presence, while advanced age (75+) requires careful monitoring. Services should be postponed if clients appear intoxicated or under the influence of substances. AVS may be an alternative to VAT for individuals with pacemakers, severe hypertension, or blood clot history, since the sound frequencies are delivered only through headphones without vibrations, though medical consultation is still recommended.
